The Homeopathic Journey
What should I be experiencing?
Homeopaths tend to suggest that you should commit to at least 3 appointments initially, to provide a window of time in which you should start to see changes. Depending on the complexity of your case and the symptoms you came with, by the 3rd appointment (or before) you may experience any of the following:
Finding that, although it is still there, you are better able to cope with the problem you came with.
Seeing wider improvements in your general wellbeing, mood, energy and/or sleep.
Beginning to see some improvements in your principal condition, or more significant/ complete relief.
Experiencing improvements in other conditions you have; besides the issue you came with.
Have new insights into yourself and the direction your life is going in – perhaps thinking about changes/ new directions you want to take.
In more complex cases, it may be that we are still working towards getting to the core of your case or that our aim is to prevent your condition from worsening.
In terminal cases, we may be working on palliation of your symptoms to help make you more comfortable and enhance your quality of life.
What factors will be affecting my progress?
Whilst everyone is different and there are no hard and fast rules; the following are some of the main factors that will affect how long symptoms take to resolve.
The length of time you have been ill for.
The type of condition you have and the severity of your symptoms.
What other illnesses you have.
Your overall level of vitality – generally higher in younger people, for example.
Your history of taking conventional medication.
Current, and prior, levels of stress in your life – whether emotional (e.g. caring for a sick relative/ being in a difficult relationship) or physical (e.g. physical labour, living near a phone mast)
What happens next?
As treatment continues, we expect to see the symptoms of your complaint gradually become less severe, with longer gaps between episodes. You should remember though, that true healing is rarely linear and symptoms often resurface during periods of increased stress. There is a natural eb and flow between illness and resolution, as the body learns to rebalance.
For those on a conventional medication, you may find that you need less of it over time or choose to stop it altogether (if you decide to do so, please let me know so that I can help support you through the process).
As your condition improves; often, appointments can be spaced out over longer periods.
For some people, where significant improvements occur quite quickly, we can now begin the process of signing you off treatment. This generally needs to be managed carefully over several appointments, as we need to ensure that your remedies have gone deep enough to prevent symptoms returning soon after stopping them.
Your longer-term journey with Homeopathy.
Many people come to homeopathy with a particular condition in mind, but then continue with treatment because they have other symptoms/ areas of their life they wish to work on – whether physical, mental, emotional or spiritual. With longer term treatment, we are able to peel back the layers of illness to establish a deeper level of healing – bolstering against future issues and helping to free more of your individual potential.
Others reach a level of health that they are happy with and are ready to work towards signing off treatment for the time being.
Often people, having progressed to a point they are happy with for the moment, and finished their initial treatment; continue to return for regular top-up treatment as and when they feel necessary, to maintain optimum wellbeing. This may include treatment for acute conditions such as infections, recovery from recent injuries and surgeries etc (shorter appointments can be booked for acute issues) or for stressful periods in their life where they require more mental/emotional support.
Between homeopathy appointments, you can choose to continue ordering homeobotanicals if you wish, to help maintain optimal health. Mixes that have been prescribed before can be reordered via email; for anything new a short consultation can be made.
Sometimes, for more severe/ terminal conditions or for people with ongoing heavy stressors in their lives, continual treatment is the best option. Although even under these circumstances, appointments can generally be spaced out further over time.
Homeopathy for Life.
Homeopathic treatment is designed to re-establish internal order at the deepest level, so that your whole level of health improves. This will also help bolster you against future reoccurrences of your illness – so that they don’t happen as easily/ frequently.
However, as we experience continued life stressors, at some point we inevitably become unbalanced again, and this is when further treatment may be needed.
Just as with your doctor, whenever you require further help, you can book back in for follow up appointments.
Ultimately, homeopathy puts you in the driver’s seat and empowers you to take back control of your own health and wellbeing, on your own terms. It’s a journey that you can take as far as you are willing to go.
Wishing you well on your healing journey!
